Traveling with Furry Friends

Our furry friends can make the best travel partners. Nobody wants to leave their pets at home for a weekend getaway, but providing a safe & pet friendly environment is very important. Here are 3 important travel tips to keep you fur babies’ happy little campers.

Tip 1: Create a Safe & Pet Friendly Environment

Our pets are the first to explore due to their curiosity and temptations. You can avoid these situations by limiting the amount of food left out on easy to reach places. Animals tend to find the temptation of getting on the table to eat whatever food is in sight so try cleaning up even if you are only stepping outside for a second.

Another easy way to create a pet friendly environment is by always using a harness, leash or collar with a tag. This will ensure that your pet is always safe and under supervision when they are outside in the wilderness. Although your pet may be well trained, this will protect your animal from any other animals that may be dangerous to your furry friend.

Tip 2: Take Responsibility for Your Pet

Clean up after your pet and dispose of the waste. Be sure to not leave your fur baby unattended inside your RV, there is always the possibility that your AC unit can fail and your pet will quickly overheat. Never leave your animal tied up outside unless you plan to be out there too. You don’t want your animal to get loose and disturb other animals and campers.

Tip 3: Healthy is Key

Always keep your pet up to date on vaccines and vet visits, it is recommended that you get a routine visit a few months before your scheduled trip. Since the health of your pet is top priority you need to be aware that whenever you expose them to new environments there is the opportunity of being infected with new illnesses, viruses and diseases. Be sure to contact your vet if you have any questions or concerns.

The experience of traveling can give your pet anxieties that are channeled within their gastrointestinal system which can lead to extreme spurts of diarrhea and appetite loss. You can help your furry friend by giving them goat’s milk which will stimulate their appetite with healthy minerals and vitamins and sooth sensitive stomachs and gastrointestinal problems.
